TLC Purposes

What Purposes are Filled by a TLC?

Provides more opportunities for youth to learn leadership.  This includes advanced forms of leadership, such as being a part of a representative government, and learning how to function as a leader and communicate in large organizations with many levels.

Gives youths greater opportunity to plan and run their own programs. As an example, a Stake Venturing TLC might provide the framework for the young men themselves to plan and carry out their Stake sports program, with many benefits, for example, improved sportsmanship.

Sponsors activities that are better held on a scale broader than the individual crews. Some examples might be: car rally, Venturer Olympics, large scale career fair, basketball league or tournament

Serves as a communication link (Crews to Zone to District to Council to national BSA and back). There may be many worthwhile things being sponsored by the Venturing movement that many crews never hear about. The TCA also provides a means for individual Venturers and Crews to influence these events.

Provides help to new or weak crews. Enthusiastic young TLC leaders can be a powerful influence with crews that are struggling.  Their positive experience with Venturing might be believable to both adult and youth leaders and have far more power to help others catch the vision of how to implement Venturing than suggestions coming from an outside adult.

Provides a Venturing experience for young men from wards with small numbers. Sometimes in an LDS setting, a ward has only a single active Priest. His participation in a Stake TLC may be the only opportunity available to him to experience the blessings of Aaronic Priesthood Venturing.
