Venturing Vice-Chairman for BSA District/Council
|
Appoint TLC Advisor:
Find a well-trained adult to serve. Consider also an assistant advisor or decide another method for having two persons involved to the extent that BSA youth protection requirements are met for direct work with youths.

Provide representatives to participate in this TLC:
These may be Crew Presidents, Chairman of other TLCs, or their appointed representatives.

Participate in TLC meetings. Speak, vote, obtain information. Serve as communication link and representative from/to own Crew or lower-level TLC. Obtain and submit VIS information on interests. Publicize and promote TLC-sponsored activities.

Organize the TLC: Option 1--The Nominating Committee Option: Identify a young man to serve as TLC
Chairman.
Then work with him to recommend and ask young men to be 1st and 2nd Vice-Chairmen and Secretary/Treasurer. Call a meeting, inviting Venturing Crews and/or lower-level TLCs to send representatives. Present the TLC Cabinet for approval.
Option 2–The Open Election Option: Call a meeting. Invite Venturing Crews and/or lower-level TLCs to send representatives. At the meeting, allow nominations from the floor and allow
election of young men to fill the TLC Cabinet positions listed above. May use "meaningful experience" prior to nominations to help young men get better acquainted with each other.

Conduct a Venturer Interest Survey (VIS):
Obtain input from the Crews or lower-level TLCs on members' interests and preferences for Venturing activities at this level.

Conduct TLC Officer's Seminar:
Generally done as an overnight retreat. Typically will cover: (1) Duties of officers; (2) Leadership skill training; (3) Preparation of a District Venturing calendar. The TLC Cabinet may take the lead in discussions preparing the latter, based on the VIS. If the TLC does not yet have a DDI or Code & Bylaws, these may be decided/developed (or assignment given to the Administrative Vice-Chairman or a committee prepare recommendations for a later TLC meeting.)

Meet regularly (perhaps monthly) to plan TLC meetings and to make sure the District Venturing program is operating
effectively.

Conduct monthly TLC meeting and oversee activities:. Conduct TLC business. Use Robert's Rules of
Order. Make activity chair assignments. Have activity chairmen report plans for coming activities. Vote and approve activity plans. Evaluate past activities.

Give final approval for activities/Provide needed consultants: Determine help needed by the TLC, and particularly
by activity chairmen, to successfully organize coming activities. Make sure that needed consultants are notified and involved.

Conduct activities:
With the assistance of other young men, Venturing committee representatives, and help from consultants as needed, prepare activity plans. Present plans in TLC meetings for approval. Carry out activities. Evaluate.

Participate in other Venturing Teen Leaders Council (TLC):
Represent the this TLC with higher-level TLCs (District or Council), if such are held. Give input. In turn, represent the higher-level TLC to this VTLC, including giving reports, obtaining action, and publicizing higher-level TLC program plans.

Help individual Crews get organized and trained:
Work with individual Crews (or lower-level TLCs) that are having trouble in implementing Venturing. Give training and other needed help. Model the Venturing method in all meetings, activities, and actions.
