Getting TLC Officers

How to get TLC officers?

Here are two methods:

1. "FREE FOR ALL" method

PROCEDURE: Call a meeting, elect officers from those who attend

EXAMPLES: High School elections, Utah political mass meetings, U. S. Congress.

ADVANTAGES: Experience in full election process.

DISADVANTAGES: Will often result in weak leadership/organization unless there is strong motivation or competition for the offices.

2. "SLATE OF CANDIDATES" method

PROCEDURE: Slate of candidates (cabinet) pre-selected and presented at initial meeting, other nominations allowed from the floor, officers elected. Cabinet made up of different persons than the representatives

EXAMPLES: PTA, most civic organizations  (Calling and sustaining of officers in LDS Church is similar)

    ADVANTAGES:

    • Fits LDS environment better
    • Allows separation of the Cabinet from representatives--each naturally have their own allegiences
    • Leaders may be stronger and more committed–broader group for selection
    • More young men involved in leadership
    • Continuity–TLC Cabinet changes yearly, Crew Presidents may change at any time

DISADVANTAGES: Does not provide an experience in elections, campaigning, etc.
