An effective quorum/crew is one which is appropriately organized. "Organize yourselves; prepare every needful thing." (D&C 88:118) In the BSA Venturing Leadership
Handbook, five offices are outlined for an Venturing Crew Presidency: Crew President, 1st Vice-President over Administration, 2nd Vice-President over Programs, Crew Secretary, and Crew Treasurer.
In the Taylorsville Utah Central Stake, it is recommended that this organization be modified to coordinate crew leadership with the young men's priesthood callings in the Priests Quorum Presidency, as follows:
Crew President

•

completed and evaluated
If it is felt necessary to call young men other than members of the Quorum Presidency to serve in these positions, they should be presented to the
Quorum/Crew for their sustaining vote and attend Quorum Presidency planning meetings.
Venturing Experience Area Activity Chairmen When Quorum/Crew size permits, six young men, each representing a different
Venturing Experience Area, should be called or appointed by the Crew President to serve as activity chairmen, and report to the Crew President. These Experience Areas are:
•
Social
•
Service
•
Leadership
•
Career
•
Fitness
•
Outdoors
A large Quorum/Crew may fill out the full five-member Crew Presidency to give more boys leadership opportunities, and form six activity committees under the six
chairmen. A small quorum/crew may combine these leadership roles by doubling up assignments as needed.
The goal of all Venturing activities is the development of leadership in each crew member. By being placed in a position where they are responsible for activities and
other people, they have to learn to be a leader. To develop leadership in all Priests/Venturers they must be provided with opportunities to be leaders--to plan
and carry out activities and make relationships work. The best way to learn is by trying something, not by watching someone or being told about it. Venturers learn
to make ethical decisions, to plan an event, to communicate, or to encourage others by being in a position where those skills and actions are necessary.
Along with other duties, the Fitness Chairman should have responsibility for quorum participation in stake athletics. Duties of the Social Chairman may include
leadership for Venturer participation in monthly combined activities of the ward YM-YW. The activity chairman is responsible for planning, obtaining
Quorum/Crew approval for, carrying out, and evaluating midweek and other activities of the Crew activities in their experience area.
